Shungiku Nakamura (中村 春菊, Nakamura Shungiku) is a Japanese manga artist and author. She is the creator of the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series.

OverviewEdit

Nakamura's career began in 1998 with the release of the boys love manga Touzandou Tentsui Ibun, published in GUST Comics.

She is most famous for creating Junjou Romantica (lit. Pure-hearted Romance), which began in 2002 in the quarterly boys love manga magazine CIEL Tres Tres. The series has been adapted into drama CDs and an anime, and it has a series of tie-in novels.

As a spin-off to Junjou Romantica, she created the Sekai-ichi manga series and the first Sekai-ichi light novel series beginning in 2006.

Her distinct style of manga has been identified largely throughout Japanese and English yaoi fanbases. Her works often include one relationship with a large (10+ year) age gap and characters with careers in the publishing industry, as depicted in Junjou Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.

She cowrites with Fujisaki Miyako, who authored the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi light novel series' The Case of Chiaki Yoshino and The Case of Takafumi Yokozawa.

Nakamura avoids photographs, and no official photos of her have been released.

Nakamura approves some aspects of the licensed releases of her manga. The North American licensor SuBLime had to adjust their release schedule for Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi to accommodate Nakamura's busy schedule.[1]
