Synopsis[]
Rookie editor Ritsu Onodera has no interest in manga, but when he applied for a job at Marukawa Publishing, not only did he get assigned to the shojo manga department, it turns out his boss—hotshot editor Masamune Takano—is his first love from high school! Just being around Masamune is enough to throw Ritsu for a loop in both his work and private life, and Masamune isn’t helping by insisting he’s still in love with Ritsu. To complicate matters further, Takafumi Yokozawa—Masamune’s best friend and the infamous “Raging Bear” of sales—declares Masamune belongs to him! Will Ritsu really turn his back on his first love?[1]
Plot[]
In "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.3," Ritsu Onodera is working on a publication proposal, which Masamune Takano initially rejects. Ritsu continues to struggle with his feelings for Takano, and the situation becomes more complicated when he hears about Takano and Takafumi Yokozawa's history together from Yoshiyuki Hatori, when he hears about Takano's reputation from his former coworker Saeki, and when he sees Takano out with a woman. Takano confronts Ritsu since he saw Ritsu out with Saeki, and he pulls him into his apartment, but Ritsu runs out on him again. The chapter ends with Ritsu nervously heading to a meeting at Marukawa Publishing where he will present his publication proposal. Takano reassures him, but Ryuichiro Isaka makes a joke that he and Ritsu have both ridden their parents' coattails, embarrassing Ritsu, and Takano laughs at him.
In "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.4," Ritsu struggles with the decision to transfer back to editing literature. Ryouichi Sumi, an author Ritsu used to work with, reminds him of his passion, and his editor Hasegawa lets Ritsu know that it would be easy to transfer to the literature department. Ritsu runs into Takano at the library, and trips while running off, and runs into Yokozawa as he's dropping off his cat at Takano's. Yokozawa warns Ritsu off again. Ritsu receives a call from Yukina Mutou, who thanks and encourages his work as a manga editor, and Takano gives him some reassurances as well. Takano notices that Ritsu is bleeding from his fall earlier and bandages the wound, and they get intimate, but they're interrupted by another call from Mutou to work on a manuscript. The next day, Ritsu comes into work fully prepared for the next meeting, having decided to stay on as a manga editor and not transfer.
"The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.4.5" begins with Ritsu and Takano (then called Saga) in high-school. Saga helps Ritsu with his homework in the school library. He invites Ritsu to spend the night, and Ritsu agrees. Saga kisses him, and after the last of the other students leave, Saga locks the library door and they have sex under the window. The chapter transitions to the present day with Takano stepping on Ritsu because he's fallen asleep at work. Takano asks Ritsu what he always dreams about because he looks so happy, but Ritsu definitely won't tell him.
