Synopsis[]

Manga editor Ritsu Onodera continues working under the guiding hand of his boss and first love, Masamune Takano. After the department’s fun (?) group vacation, Ritsu returns to the familiar hellscape of cycle end at Emerald. On his way to a meeting, he runs into Nao Kiyomiya, an old classmate and the only friend he had after Takano broke his heart. Will Ritsu fess up that the Masamune Saga who emotionally destroyed him in high school and the Masamune Takano he now calls his boss are one and the same?[1]

Plot[]

In "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.23," the Emerald editing department is still struggling from missing three days of work due to the typhoon that delayed their return from their onsen trip. Takano insists on meeting Ritsu for dinner that night. Ritsu runs into his old classmate from studying abroad, Nao, who's at Marukawa to get his photography book published. Ritsu later receives an email from Haitani, which he hides from Takano. After work, Nao calls to Ritsu's place. After he arrives, Takano comes by with food, and the situation becomes awkward between Takano and Nao. As they all chat, Nao tells Takano about the person who broke Ritsu's heart that led Ritsu to studying abroad, but he realizes that Takano is that person. As Ritsu goes to take a shower, Nao keeps talking about it to intentionally insult Takano. He asks Takano's full name, figuring out that he's Masamune Saga. Nao digs in, thinking Takano is taking advantage of Ritsu again, and tells Takano to consider what he's doing. Nao leaves because they've stayed up so late that the trains are running again. Takano asks Ritsu if he and Nao dated because he thinks Nao is into Ritsu; Ritsu says they didn't, but they were close friends. Takano admits he's jealous. They have sex, and Takano says it drives him nuts that there are still things about Ritsu that he doesn't know. The next day, Ritsu falls asleep at work because he's so tired. He starts to respond to Haitani, but Takano catches him.

In "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.24," Takano gives Ritsu a hard time about manga chapter, and Takano says it's because Ritsu has zero experience with love. An gives Ritsu a call and the two meet up later for dinner and catch up. An asks about how things are going with his "neighbor" because she's worried about him and wants him to be happy. On his way home, Ritsu runs into Takano and then Haitani arrives and confronts Ritsu about going out with him. Takano and Haitani argue, and Ritsu's certain something weird is going on, and he asks Haitani if he's actually in love with Takano instead. Haitani admits it, and admits that he pulled the same thing with the girl Takano was seeing when they both worked at Earth, because both the girl and Ritsu aren't worthy of being with Takano over him. Takano tells him off and leaves with Ritsu. They talk in Takano's apartment and they have sex, and Ritsu reflects on the many different ways people show love. Ritsu gets an improved chapter to Takano, and they again run into Nao, who's back from his photo shoot. 53 days until Ritsu falls (completely) in love.

In "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.24.5," Ritsu and Takano bump into each other as Ritsu rushes to make the last train, spilling their things. Ritsu packs up and runs for the train, but when he gets home he realizes he accidentally has Takano's glasses. As he's trying them on, Takano calls, startling him.

In “The Case of Kou Yukina No.3,” Shouta Kisa has some free time to meet up with Kou Yukina since the cycle ended at Emerald, and Yukina excitedly comes to meet up with Kisa at his apartment complex. They were kissing before Kisa could even open the front door to his apartment, and Kisa’s older brother happens to walk onto the scene, and instantly begins questioning Yukina. After their first meeting, this unnamed older brother looks into Yukina’s background, and approaches him one day after work. He tears into him, but it comes to light that he did this to Yukina, as well as many other partners Kisa had in the past out of a sense of protectiveness. The chapter closes out with them wanting to learn even more about each other, and Kisa getting his first look at a picture of what Yukina’s family looks like.
