Marukawa Publishing (丸川書店, Marukawa Shoten) is a major publishing company in the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series. Most of the main characters work for Marukawa, notably the Emerald department.

The company is run by Ryuichiro Isaka, who takes over after his father.

The editing office is decorated in a girly fashion in hopes of placing themselves in the minds of their mostly female readers. Japun is the department in charge of shounen manga including the Japun weekly shounen magazine. Its main competitor is Shuudansha's Weekly Earth magazine.

Sapphire[]

Sapphire is the department in charge of BL (Boys-Love) manga including the Sapphire monthly magazine.

One of the Sapphire editors, a woman whom Kisa Shouta speaks to on an elevator, is getting married.

Four female Sapphire editors are excited to hear about how Takano helped take care of Ritsu over a weekend in "The Case of Ritsu Onodera No.16" (volume 9). When they asked why he would go so far, Takano answers, "Love," leading them to squee even more.

Printing[]

The Printing department is in charge of actually printing the publications. They are usually mentioned in the series in regards to getting them to push back their deadlines to accommodate late manuscripts for Emerald magazine. Takano is the editor who initially negotiates with Printing. When Ritsu becomes program director of the Emerald editing department, he takes over negotiating with the printers for later deadlines.

  • Marukawa Shoten is based off a real office called Kadokawa Shoten, which is the publisher behind the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series.

Junjou Romantica[]

Marukawa Publishing is also a major publishing company in Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi's sister series Junjou Romantica. Akihiko Usami publishes his boyslove novels through Marukawa. His editor is Eri Aikawa, who works for Marukawa but does not appear in the Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi series.

Usami's lover Misaki Takahashi becomes a part-time employee at Marukawa. When Misaki visits the company in Junjou Romantica, Masamune Takano makes a cameo appearance, seemingly near the end of Emerald's cycle.
